On Thanksgiving day people pray in churches and homes to express their thanks for
the blessing of the fruitful fields and healthy skies.
The puritans were a group of English protestants who lived in the 16th and 17th
centuries they decided to go to America to escape from religious attacks .on
Desember 11,1620, they arrived in the u.s.
Forty-six of 102 persons lost their lives. but the harvest of 1621 was plentiful.
The remaining fifty-six puritans along with the ninety-one Indians , the natives of
America who had helped them survive their first year decided to celebrate with a
feast. It is believed that the puritans would not have survive without the help of
the Indians the feast lasted three days.governor William Bradford send for men
fowling after wild ducks and geese. the puritans used to call any kind of wild
fowl turkey however, nowadays a real turkey is used as the main menu of the
Thanksgiving day. The feast also included fish,berries, lobster, dried fruit ,clams,
and plums.
After the first Tanksgiving, the custom spread throughout the u.s., but each stats
chose its own date. In 1789 George Washington , the first president of the united
states, announced November 26 a day of thanksgiving.in1863, president Lincoln
called the last Thursday of November for this purpose.
Thanksgiving is now celebrate on the fourth Thursday in November.
The turkey tradition was suggested by Benjamine franklin, another presiden of the
u.s. because the turkey is a quick runner and a care full fowl , with sharp eyesight.
On Thanksgiving day, the Americans sit around a table with a big meal, usually
With a turkey as the main dish.In most families, a special prayer of thanks follows
the meal. Family members will each find some thing they are very thankful for.
